Alan MacDiarmid
In social studies, I have been learning about a man named Alan MacDiarmid.
Alan Is a chemist at a young age Alan found one of his Fathers chemistry books and he started studying his favourite experiment was how to make invisible ink from lemon juice.
When Alan says "we all owe so much to those who have gone before us we stand on the shoulders of giants," I think he means that the people have gone have left us an opportunity and now we stand proud and tall.

At Hornby high, we have been asked how can we have a positive impact on our community?
To do this first we had to choose a topic. I chose water pollution because I think there is to many plastics that destroys our land and sea life I think its something that should be noticed and worked on because it affects our community.

Meygan and Savannah.
To have a better understanding of water pollution we had to explore websites and find out as much information as we can. here are the websites we visited.

In drama, we have been playing lots of energy games like
mirror games and Tequila.
The games help us learn new words and it also gives us energy for the day.
when we play the games I feel energetic and happy.
5 minutes after the game we take a break and it gives me some time to catch my breath
because we have been moving around so much that you begin to build up sweat.

In social studies, we have been learning about how Maori lived their life in the early days. Here is some of my working.

Daily life in Maori communities - te noho a te hapori
Traditionally, the day began early with prayers and singing to worship the rising sun.

The daily life of the community was based around getting food, so most people spent their days in activities such as

Planting and tending
Crops in communal
gardens.
|
Fishing and gathering seafood
|
Hunting moa other birds or seals.
|
Children and adults worked alongside each other, and chiefs worked together with their people.
|
The first meal of the day was around mid morning. As the sun began to set, workers returned to the village and food was prepared and eaten together.
|
The rest of the evening was spent in games and conservations.
Sometimes there were prayers o the settings sun once it was dark people generally went to sleep.

Holidays
We have returned to school ready to learn and it is always a nice
time to relax and talk about how your holidays went.
well for me I enjoyed many things about holidays like catching up with
things that need to be done, spending time with family and friends and loads more.
But the one thing that I finally wanted was just a few more minutes sleeping.
My highlight would be spending time with family.

In social studies, our class plus Mr Peseta came up with 12 class rules. Mr Peseta came up with 6 rules and the class came up with 6 rules. Our class put these rulers into a class treaty here is an image of the treaty, we all signed.
